Music Development Plan

All schools are required to have a comprehensive Music Development Plan in place, as outlined in the national plan for music education.

This plan ensures that music education is accessible, inclusive, and of high quality, fostering creativity and enriching childrens educational experiences.

As part of this requirement, schools must publish a summary of their Music Development Plan for the 2025-26 academic year.

This summary is updated annually before the start of each new academic year.

By doing so, schools demonstrate their commitment to music education and ensure their plans remain relevant and impactful.

Our plan

Woodpecker Hall Academy provides a comprehensive music education from Nursery to Year 6, with weekly specialist-led curriculum lessons, whole-class instrumental teaching, and regular singing assemblies.

The school enriches learning through inclusive adaptations for SEND pupils and by offering co-curricular opportunities such as choir, samba band, pop band, and peripatetic guitar and keyboard tuition.

Pupils also take part in a wide range of musical experiences, including festivals at local theatres, workshops delivered by external specialists, and school performances across the year.

Looking ahead, the school aims to expand staff training, widen extracurricular provision, invest in accessible instruments, strengthen transition links with Heron Hall Academy, and develop trust-wide moderation to support consistent assessment.

You can find our plan here.
