Free school meal vouchers

The new national voucher scheme for benefits related free school meals

The government has announced that a new voucher scheme, for free school meals for pupils who are not in school, will run from 18 January.

It will operate for 4 weeks up until the February half-term. We expect further news in due course whether and if free school meal vouchers will be provided after this date.

We will let you know as soon as we have this information.

The national voucher scheme will again be organised on behalf of the government by a company called Edenred.

How much will I receive and when will I be sent the voucher/s?

Families who receive benefits related free school meals will receive vouchers of £15 per week for each eligible child who is not attending school.

Families will get a combined  voucher if they have more than one eligible child.

We will send you your vouchers fortnightly. The scheme starts on 18 January. You should receive your first voucher/s by the end of the week.

A child who is eligible for benefits related free school meals who attends school will be given a free lunch and not a voucher for the days they have food in school.

What do you I need to do?

We know which of our families are eligible for benefits free school meals so you do not need to contact us.

Please contact us however if you have recently changed your email address or do not have one.

The voucher/s will be sent to you by an email which will come from 'Edenred' - not from your school email address.

The email you receive will contain a 16-digit eCode that you can use online to choose from a selection of supermarket ‘eGift cards’.

Once families have received their voucher/s, they will be able to redeem them in store at the selected retailer by either:

presenting the voucher on a smartphone or tablet
presenting a paper copy of the voucher

When will the voucher/s be arriving?

We expect families to receive their voucher/s by the end of the week starting 18 January.

Where can I use my vouchers?

Through Edenred, you can currently get eGift cards for the following supermarkets:

    Aldi
    Iceland
    McColl’s
    Morrisons
    Tesco
    Sainsbury’s
    Asda
    Waitrose
    M&S
    Company Shop Group

My child is attending the school hub some days of the week, will we also get vouchers?

A child who is eligible for benefits related free school meals who attends school will be given a free lunch and not a voucher.

A voucher/s will be issued for those days when they are not in school.

What do I do if I do not receive my voucher?

The first vouchers are not due until the end of the week commencing 18 January.

Please check to see if your voucher/s email is in your spam filter box first before contacting us.

Do we have your correct email address? Have you let us know if you have changed your email address recently? If not, please call us.
